Everything that is accomplished at Gerber/Hart Library and Archives comes at a financial cost. From keeping the doors open to purchasing storage materials, the cost of safeguarding our community’s history is high. We are so grateful to all of our donors for making it all possible. If you do not have materials for our collections or time and energy to share as a volunteer, please consider a monetary contribution. Whether signing up for a monthly recurring donation or a one-time gift, we greatly appreciate your dedication to preserving the LGBTQ history of the Midwest. BOOKS AND AUDIO/VISUAL MATERIALS:
Gerber/Hart has a circulating library collection of over 22,000 items, including over 17,000 unique titles, that each contain a major LGBTQ theme or focus. These numbers are truly amazing considering we have no formal acquisitions budget. All of the patrons who access books from or generously donate materials to Gerber/Hart play a part in making this wonderful resource thrive. Contributions of new or gently used books and audio/visual materials have assembled to become a truly community library by and for all who participate. If you would like to help this resource grow further, please only bring materials that have a major LGBTQ theme, focus, or character. Doing a preliminary sort to determine if the content of what you donate aligns with our mission will help save time, energy, and the money necessary to sort, store, and relocate materials that do not fit within our collection’s scope. Donations can be dropped off at Gerber/Hart Library and Archives during our open hours.
HISTORICAL/CULTURAL ARTIFACTS AND PAPERS:
Our Special Collections and Archives hold the papers and objects that make Gerber/Hart a treasure of the Midwest. Researchers of all kinds utilize our holdings for a variety of reasons ranging from personal interest to publishing texts. Public access to documentation of the LGBTQ history of the Midwest is critical for our stories to live on. These materials tell of personal hardships, community struggles, and human victories. These experiences are brought to life once again through each patron’s personal conversations, public performances, and published resources. If you have materials that add to this ongoing historical conversation, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are thrilled to welcome new voices onto our shelves and into the lives of anyone who comes into Gerber/Hart.
