Cartooning AIDS

Continuing its run through March 2018 in Howard Brown Health Clark Waiting Room, Cartooning AIDS features the political cartoons of Danny Sotomayor and looks at how issues surrounding AIDS were engaged through political cartoons, comic books, trading cards, and ‘zines for the purpose of political critique, education, and awareness.

Hagenhofer Exhibit

Continuing its run in a condensed form in the Walgreens Pharmacy display area. John Daniel Hagenhofer who worked as a WPA artist, painter, illustrator, cartoonist, and designer. His collection includes over 70 drawings (the earliest from 1936), over 200 photographs from the mid-1930s, and correspondence with his brother from the early 1950s. The exhibit includes a selection of his art.

Reeling 2016

Gerber/Hart will be co-presenting a screening of Upstairs Inferno at Reeling 2016, the 34th annual Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival. The festival runs September 22-29 at Music Box Theater, Landmark Century Centre Cinema, and Chicago Filmmakers. Upstairs Inferno is a documentary about the 1973 arsonist fire in the New Orleans gay bar the Up Stairs Lounge. The fire trapped patrons and killed 32. The screening will be on Sunday, September 25, 7:00 pm at the Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema. Additional information about the film and ticket purchase can be found at
